Jennie Rutkowski was introduced to Japanese culture at a young age, falling in love with the unique art style and cultural difference reflected in her mother’s collection. Her fascination with the differences in East Asian and North American art influenced her to eventually pursue a degree in Art History. After receiving her B.A. in Art History and Criminal Justice from La Salle University, she completed her education with an M.A. in Art History with a Concentration in Cultural Heritage and Preservation Studies from Rutgers University.

Jennie’s first step into the cultural sector was at Shofuso in 2022, where she started as a Visitor Services Assistant. She was able to use her love of Japanese culture in her tours, interpreting the site for visitors, and assisting with preservation projects at Shofuso. Eventually, she was promoted to Shift Supervisor in 2024.

Now as Program Associate, she helps oversee and conduct outreach for various programs for the JASGP. Additionally, Jennie helps patrons book rentals of the site, schedule group tours at Shofuso, organize events, work with special guests, and facilitate online programs. When she is not working, she spends time studying Japanese, playing video games with friends, and working on sewing projects.
