The Japanese Classroom Program offers evening Japanese classes for adults based on a college-style curriculum. There are three semesters annually, Spring (February-April), Summer (May-July), and Fall (September-December). Classes are held online.
Culture Classes and Workshops
Our tea ceremony classes offer the opportunity to practice in a traditional style in an authentic setting. Our teachers are licensed by the Chado Urasenke Tankokai Philadelphia Association, licensed by Urasenke headquarters in Kyoto, Japan.
Tea ceremonies at Shofuso are led by members from the Chado Urasenke Tankokai Philadelphia Association, headquartered in Kyoto, Japan. Public demonstrations are narrated to provide context to guests.
Throughout the 2022 season, taiko instructor Mac Evans will lead a weekly series of free repertoire-learning workshops. Develop your Taiko skills with Mac in the shadow of Shofuso’s historic 17th century architecture while enjoying the serenity and beauty of Philadelphia’s West Fairmount Park. This weekly event will start at 1:30pm each Saturday, with the exception of April 9, May 14 and October 1. All are welcomed to sign up online or walk up in person, although there is a 12 person capacity due to instrument limitations.
