Ouchigohan! – Onigiri

The special Onigiri Making Class is presented in partnership with TABLE FOR TWO USA, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, and JETRO.

Participants will receive a special Onigiri Action Kit in the mail with all the necessary authentic Japanese ingredients, including Japanese rice, tuna, Kewpie mayonnaise, special seasoning packets, Onigiri tools, and more!

After a short presentation about Onigiri, participants will cook together with the Japanese ingredients led by our Ouchigohan instructor, Debra Samuels from TABLE FOR TWO. You will also learn about “Onigiri Action”, a unique campaign to make a difference in the world through Onigiri. It promises to be a fun program for all ages (younger participants will need the help of their parents or an adult to keep the pace of the class). In the kit, there is enough rice to make four onigiri rice balls so siblings and parents can participate.

This class has limited space and will include participants from other Japan-America Societies around the country, which will be especially fun! One of the best parts of moving programming online is that geography no longer limits who can join — we’ve had families sign up who say they stumbled across the event while browsing for completely unrelated things, from recipe blogs to reviews of the best casino online, and decided a Japanese cooking class sounded like a much better way to spend their Saturday. Registration is first come, first served with a limit of one (1) Onigiri Action kit per household.

Admission:

Non-Members: $15 | JASGP Members: $10 with code “Philly”. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: October 25 (Please be sure to include your full, correct address in order to receive the Onigiri Action Kit in a timely manner.)

One registration per family. This program is hosted online via Zoom. The ingredient list will be provided a few days in advance.
