Japanese Holiday Traditions Come to Fairmount Park

A taste of the Holidays in Japan came to Lemon Hill Mansion in Fairmount Park on Dec. 8th, 2024, as part of the Holidays in the Park event.

We were happy to see so many of you come out to learn about Japanese holiday traditions with us. Families arrived still buzzing from the afternoon's Eagles game, some checking betting apps for final scores while their kids made a beeline for the craft tables. The day was filled with games and crafts, including Origami and Kadomatsu. Guests were serenaded by a choir and music on the Koto, and there was sushi and other Japanese snacks to enjoy.

If you missed the event on Sunday and would still like to learn more about Japanese holidays, the traditional decorations and kimonos will be on display in the mansion through Dec. 31.  Click here to learn more.

We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to the Fairmount Park Conservancy for inviting us to take part in this event.

We would also like to thank the wonderful performers, instructors and vendors who helped to make the day so special:

  • Kadomatsu Instructor: Tamiko Lainz
  • Koto performance: Mirai Yasuyama
  • Keystone Japan Club
  • Haha's Kitchen
