23rd Nihongo PhilaCon: Japanese Language Competition

Do you want to enjoy Japanese quizzes, eat delicious bento and experience Japanese culture? Come to “PhilaCon” hosted by the Japan-America Society of Greater Philadelphia and have FUN together!!!!!

This fun quiz-show-style competition includes a bento lunch and a cultural demonstration. It’s free to any middle and high school students studying Japanese in the greater Philadelphia area.

How to Register

For inquiries regarding individual applications not affiliated with a school please fill out the registration form below. If you are a student in a middle or high school Japanese language program please ask your teacher to sign up as a class. Contact to Yuka Usami (PhilaCon Coordinator: yusamica@haverford.edu). The deadline for registration is February 28th.

Haiku (俳句(はいく)) Contest!

We’re also holding our first ever HAIKU contest. A haiku is a form of Japanese poetry based on a 5-7-5 syllable structure. You can submit your haiku along with your application.

Haiku Rules

  • No seasonal words required
  • Original works only
  • Must not have been submitted to other contests
  • One entry per person
  • Japanese haiku only

Those who wish to submit a haiku (optional) should write it in the application form.

Winners will be announced at the Philacon!!!
