Yokai are supernatural creatures and spirits from Japanese folklore that live all around us. Learn about them in this all ages weekend event at Shofuso! Families can participate in a scavenger hunt and win prizes. Listen to kamishibai tales of ogres, water imps, and goblins, and craft a yokai to take home!
Yokai Flea Market
Join us on Saturday, October 25th for our third annual Yokai flea market, where we sell donated Japanese goods such as clothing, books, toys, dishware, and more! All items for sale at the Yokai flea market are donated by members of our community, with all proceeds going to support the JASGP.
If you are interested in donating items to the flea market, please fill out this form.
Activities:
- Scavenger Hunt: follow the clues and find real objects around Shofuso that inspired yokai myths
- Kamishibai Storytelling (every hour starting at 12 PM): experience Japan’s classic paper theater style of storytelling with slightly spooky stories
- Crafts: sit down with staff and make spooky origami!
All activities are free after regular admission.

Your donation helps to support Japanese arts, business, and cultural programs in Philadelphia including the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival, lectures and workshops, preservation of Shofuso, and much more.
