2020 Ikebana Exhibition at Shofuso

From September 3-6, 2020, the Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center hosted the annual Ikebana exhibition with our decades-long partner Ikebana International Philadelphia Chapter 71.

Each year, Ikebana International Philadelphia uses leaves, branches, mosses, fruit and vegetables to set up beautiful displays of asymmetrical flower arrangements. For 2020, we were excited to welcome them back as their arrangements accompanied the Shofuso and Modernism: Mid-Century Collaboration between Japan and Philadelphia exhibition.

Ikebana International is a non-profit, cultural, and educational organization established in 1956 and headquartered in Tokyo.  Their mission is to stimulate, cultivate, and perpetuate the study of ikebana, related arts, and culture by demonstrations and  public exhibitions, and to strengthen relationships among teachers and students of ikebana with a deeper purpose of establishing better relationships among all peoples through the motto: Friendship Through Flowers

The Philadelphia Chapter of Ikebana International was founded in 1964.  Members are from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland and participate in chapter exhibitions at the Philadelphia Flower Show, Longwood Gardens, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Shofuso Japanese House and Garden.
