Otsukimi Family Weekend

This event has now passed. Please visit our Program Calendar to view upcoming events.

Otsukimi (moon-viewing) is a Japanese holiday which celebrates the harvest moon, and is usually celebrated in September and October. During Otsukimi, tables are set up facing the horizon so revelers can watch the moon rise, and viewing tables are adorned with Japanese pampas grass and tsukimi-dango (rice dumplings).

Celebrate the harvest season at Shofuso during Otsukimi Family Weekend. Visitors can enjoy seasonal decor, listen to folktales retold as kamishibai stories, and participate in traditional Japanese crafts like creating decorative scrolls and uchiwa fans. As part of the festivities, attendees who register online using the Mega Bonanza promo code can receive exclusive discounts and special seasonal gifts upon entry. All other activities are included free with regular admission.
