toyodaMaria is the Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Studies and Global Initiatives and Associate Professor of Political Science at Villanova University.  She also served as Political Science Chair and was the founding Director of East Asian Studies at Villanova. She was just named the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Suffolk University in Boston.

Her research and writing focus on trade, finance and politics in Japan and elsewhere. Her articles have appeared in the American Journal of Political ScienceReview of Financial Studies, and IMF Economic Review, and she is the Editor of the Journal of the Japanese Political Economy.

She has been a Social Science Research Council Abe Fellow; a Council on Foreign Relations/Hitachi International Affairs Fellow; and a Monbusho Scholar; and a visiting researcher at the International Monetary Fund and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. Prior to moving to Philadelphia, Maria was a research scholar at Stanford University’s Institute for International Studies.
