On November 3, it was announced that Honorary Consul General of Japan in Philadelphia Dennis Morikawa will receive The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon – an honor bestowed by the Japanese government for his service to US-Japan relations. A conferral ceremony will be held on January 29, 2016.
Mr. Morikawa, who serves as Senior Counsel at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius was recognized for both his legal service with Japanese nationals and Japanese Americans as well as his work with Japanese community groups. Morikawa is a board member of both the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia and the Japanese Association of Greater Philadelphia and played an instrumental role in the establishment and growth of the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival.
Amongst the highest honors awarded by the government of Japan to non-Japanese, the Order of the Rising Sun celebrates achievements in international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, advancements in their field, development in welfare or preservation of the environment. Mr. Morikawa is in impressive company. Past honorees include James Curtis Hepburn, John Milne, and Clint Eastwood.
