From October 3 to the 18, Studio Japan, a Japanese Tansu cabinetry and Mingei folk art museum located in Princeton, New Jersey will host an open house. Typically by appointment only, the daily 11 AM – 6 PM viewing times make it easier to see or purchase traditional Japanese furnishings, tansu cabinetry, pottery and decorative folk arts.
The private museum is also the tea house of Ty and Kiyoko Heineken, authors of Tansu Traditional Japanese Cabinetry (1981), the first researched history of Japanese mobile cabinetry in any non-Japanese language. The collection is housed in a 1870s post and beam barn which has been converted into a sukiya inspired building using American and Japanese craftsmen with materials from Japan.
Japan America Society members will receive a 10% discount up to $200 for purchases, in addition to a small handmade craft from Tohoku for visiting. For more information visit tansucabinetry.com
