Day two of a two day conference of the North American Japanese Garden Association, this full day workshop will focus on heritage and preservation. Participants will have a rare opportunity to learn about an actual preservation project in progress through a series of demonstrations and lectures about preserving Shofuso (Pine Breeze Villa), a traditional shoin-zukuri Japanese house designed by Yoshimura in 1953 and built in Nagoya, Japan using traditional materials and techniques. Workshop sessions include a Japanese carpentry demonstration, Historic preservation and condition reporting with practicum by participants, and a Hinoki roof demonstration.
Day ond of the conference – Tour Day on October 7th – will explore the architectural and design legacy of Yoshimura and Wright in three estates that all embrace the Japanese garden experience: Shofuso, Kykuit and Manitoga. Join us for one or both days. JASGP and NAJGA members receive a discount on tickets. Members should contact Membership and Development Manager Kara Petraglia for their discount code.
A portion of proceeds benefit the Shofuso Japanese House and Garden Roof Restoration Fund.
