It’s almost been a month since the game was released, but I finally had the chance to play Super Smash Bros for the WiiU yesterday at a friend’s place! Of course, my very first priority was to try out all the new characters. Here are my thoughts on a few of them in no particular order.
Aww, Villager’s super cute! His moves make it look like he’s not actually trying to hit his opponents…Like, “Oops, sorry, just accidentally dropped a bowling ball on your head”. Or, “Oh no! I tripped and this flowerpot I was holding just happened to fly at high speed toward your face.” He’s fun to play, and I especially like riding the Gyroid across the stage and catching people in the butterfly net. Not my favorite of all the newcomers, though.
As a huge Fire Emblem fan, I was really looking forward to playing Robin. The versatility of using the Levin sword along with all the different tomes was pretty awesome, and I loved having such a long range. Still not one of my favorites – I didn’t like his limited recovery.
She’s pretty much as advertised: a Marth clone. It’s strange not being able to tip with her, but I actually like how power is more evenly distributed throughout her sword.
Rosalina & Luma: I really liked how Luma could show up in different colors! Rosalina’s really strong, and I like the range that her charge attacks have. I feel a little sad every time Luma dies though. I’m also still trying to get used to how Rosalina and Palutena disappear every time they dodge.
Shulk: I think Shulk is my favorite of the newcomers. His range with the Monado is insane, and his smashes are super powerful. I especially like using his Monado Arts to augment different abilities – Shield is super handy when you’re at high percentages. Also, his counter looks so cool.
The omega stage function was pretty great, too. It’s nice not playing on Final Destination or Battlefield every single time…I haven’t had a chance to play with items, so I’m excited to play again sometime! I’m considering getting it for my 3DS so I can play whenever I want. Have you played the newest Super Smash? What are your thoughts? Comment below!
