Winter has been fun (if a bit cold) but spring is soon upon us! Spring is very important in Japan, mostly because of their famous cherry blossom trees. But one of my favorite things about spring in Japan is the new anime season. For those of you not in the “know,” an anime season happens every 3-4 months—when the anime from last season ends and a new batch of anime begins. And this anime season (starting in April) seems to be the best one yet!
Now obviously, I don’t have time to talk about all 40-50-something anime airing, but here are the ones I’m most looking forward to!
First off is “Date A Live.” In the anime, a boy meets a spirit girl who apparently wiped out most of humanity over 30 years ago. I’ve heard some great things about this series from people who’ve read the light novel, and from what I’ve seen of the trailers, it seems to have a lot of fascinating characters and beautiful animation.
Another is “A Certain Scientific Railgun S,” which is the sequel to the original Railgun, which is a spin-off to “A Certain Magical Index” (complicated, I know). This series is one of my favorite anime of all time. I’ve also read the manga that Railgun S is based on (and loved it), so altogether, I have very high hopes for this anime.
The last anime I want to talk about is “Hayate the Combat Butler: Cuties.” Now even though there is a season one and two, this is more like a spin-off, much like the spin-off they had last year. Now I did like last year’s spin-off, but I’m a bit skeptical about this one, mostly because of its concept. Instead of having an ongoing plot, each episode follows a different character. I usually prefer an ongoing plot as opposed to “one-offs,” but the other seasons were hilarious and action-packed, so I’m sure this one will be great as well.
There are many other anime I want to talk about, but if I did we’d be here all day. So if you want to see the full list of anime coming out this spring, check this chart.
