Time travelers, a dystopic future, and a self-proclaimed mad scientist, oh my! Steins;Gate, a visual novel that has been adapted into both an anime and a manga, has been taking the United States by storm.
Created by the same developers who masterminded Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate takes place in Akihabara and primarily focuses on a group of friends who have discovered a way to send messages back into the past. Through these messages, they are able to alter the chain of events and rewrite their own destinies.
The theory behind altering the past places limits on them, though. Many world lines may exist in an “attractor field” – and as long as the world line is in the same attractor field as another, they will eventually converge into the same result. For example, if someone was shot in one world line, in another world line in the same attractor field, perhaps they would be run over a truck. Though the causes are different, the end effect is the same, resulting in a convergence of the two world lines.
And a sinister corporation, SERN (A play on the world-famous physics laboratory, CERN), is also researching the topic of time travel. They’re not willing to face any competition, so our protagonists find themselves in many a sticky situation. Steins;Gate has an amazing storyline and plot, and features characters with elaborate personalities and backgrounds. Check out Steins;Gate!
