One of the most exciting, recent going-ons in the video game industry recently has been E3 2012! Held on the weekend of June 5-7th, this is the expo where video game developers come to show off what they have in mind for the future, and to give their fans a sense of anticipation for what is to come.
Today, I want to give a brief overview of what Nintendo announced at E3 2012.
Nintendo had a great roster of games that were announced and delved more into the Wii U specifics.
The Wii U is planned to be launched this holiday season, with a rumored price tag of $299. The most talked about part of the Wii U is definitely the new controller: a touch screen tablet, with dual analogs, bumpers, a stylus, and of course, the Start, Select, and Home buttons. Gamers were scared that this controller would be incredibly heavy, but attendants to the expo have said that the controller is actually pretty light. Players won’t get tired from playing games just by holding up the controller.
In terms of games announced, avid Nintendo fans were pleased to see some familiar series showing up again. Below, I’ll highlight a few of the games announced.
-New Super Mario Bros. U
-Just Dance 4
-Lego City: Undercover
A few third-party developers were also supporting the Wii U and porting their games to the console. I have been excited about this, as fans of Nintendo who didn’t have a PS3 or Xbox 360 can now also get theirs hands on these great games. A few examples are Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, and Ninja Gaiden 3.
While the Wii U was definitely a focus of this E3, Nintendo also showcased a few upcoming games for their handheld system, the 3DS. A few of the anticipated games shown were Luigi’s Mansion 2: Dark Moon, Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.
While many video game websites have stated that Nintendo did a sub-par job at this year E3, I believe that Nintendo has given loyal fans many games to look forward too. Fans will be hopefully receiving the chance to divulge in the new Wii U this holiday season, and until then, many great games are planned to be put out on the shelves for everyone to enjoy!
Personally, I’m excited to take up a keyblade again and battle against the Dream Eaters (even if they are so incredibly cute)!
