Philadelphia is no stranger to delicious Japanese food. You don’t have to try hard to find some fast food sushi or a bento box in any part of the city, but what about more rare delicacies? For an authentic Japanese experience, Tokio Global is your place. Lead by Garces Restaurant Group Alum Ryo Igarashi and wife Nicole Igarashi, the Center City/ South Philadelphia restaurant Maru Global has been completely revamped and relocated as the Igarashis have joined forces with Madam Saito’s Headhouse in Society Hill/Old City.
Offering their signature specialties including takoyaki and okonomyaki, famous Japanese fried batter with octopus (chicken, beef, shrimp and tofu versions are offered for the less adventurous), they also bring a “Philly kick” to the menu offering originals such as Cheesesteak Takoyaki (to die for in my opinion) and Curry Fries. In addition new items on the menu include yakitori (good old meat on a stick as Nicole calls it) and gourmet sushi from the Headhouse next-door!
Tokio Global is Maru Global with a facelift! The new location has double the power and double the punch. “We have two families working together to create a great environment with great food” Nicole Igarashi explained. “The Japanese comfort food is a rare find in Philadelphia and a specialty niche. A lot of people are not familiar with this Japanese cuisine.” The Headhouse and Tokio Global are out to show Philadelphians what they have been missing!
The new location at 124 South Lombard Street features extended late night hours, a fully stocked bar and a venue on top fitting up to 150 people. “We are planning to get some Japanese bands or DJs here, and would like to have a fashion show in the spring.” Every “First Friday” The Headhouse features art galleries, and sushi lessons are also offered by the Queen of sushi herself, Madam Saito.
Featured promotions include 10% off your food order at Tokio Global with your receipt from South Street’s Atomic City Comics. The Headhouse and Tokio Global will also be participating in the Dine Out Japan as one of JASGP’s Cherry Blossom Spring Events.
