Organizational Background
The Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia (JASGP) is a private nonprofit organization that connects Japan and Philadelphia through: operating and preserving Shofuso Japanese House and Garden; producing the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival; presenting a US-Japan Business and Public Policy Series; and providing Japanese arts, business, and cultural programming for all ages.

Position Summary
JASGP seeks a Japanese Language Instructor for the Japanese Classroom program. The position is a contract position, teaching 1.5-2 hours per week beginning at 6 pm at the William Way Community Center in Center City. Contracts are done on a semester basis. Spring runs January-April, Summer runs June-July and Fall runs September-December. The Japanese Classroom program is geared towards working professionals. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a curriculum and implement based on the New Japan Times Genki Series or other text provided by JASGP
  • Manage classes
  • Correcting out of class assignments
  • Evaluate student performance at the close of the semester

Qualifications: 必要資格

  • Fluency in Japanese (native speakers preferred)
    日本語が話せること(日本語を母国語とする人が望ましい)
  • Conversational English
    英語で生徒に教えることができる程度の会話能力があること
  • Teaching experience
    過去に教えた経験があること
  • Ability to work independently
    自分で判断して仕事ができること
