Film: Page of Madness (1926)

The annual February Japanese Film Series is presented by the University of Pennsylvania Center for East Asian Studies (UPenn CEAS) and the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia (JASGP) The theme for 2020 is “Modernism vs. Tradition in Japanese Cinema.” All screenings are free and open to the public. No registration required.

A Page of Madness is the story of a man (Masao Inoue) who takes a job as a janitor at a mental asylum in order to be near his wife (Yoshie Nakagawa). He believes he can rescue her — but his attempt to break her out one night backfires.

This silent film was thought lost for decades until rediscovered in 1975.
